About
DERMAP is an in-field training program, aimed at leading industrial designers towards a more responsible materials selection process, taking into account criticality issues of Raw Materials.
Currently, materials are selected in mechanical design with no integration among performance, supply risks and sustainability requirements.
DERMAP wants to fill this gap by
- Developing pilot software tools with educational contents for materials selection, based on CRM issues,
- Carrying out courses at industrial level, to implement these tools,
- Supporting and monitoring selected industrial companies, which will act as testers of the pilot software tools.
Background of the project
When a designer has to select a material, he requires a set of properties rather than the material itself.
This concept is at the basis of the Material Selection Process (MSP) and it is used to find a set of materials that are the most suitable for a specific application.
Project objective and scope
MSP for engineering application is fully disconnected to a strategic perspective taking care of the problems related to Critical Raw Materials.
DERMAP wants to completely change this approach.
Needs and impact
The direct beneficiaries of DERMAP Project are engineers and designer of manufactory industries.
They need in-field training programs leading tham towards a more responsible materials selection process, taking into account criticality issues of Raw Materials during the Materials Selection Process.
